Born in 1961 in the city of Winterthur, I grew up with my parents, my brother and my sister. In my youth I did a lot of drawing and it was my wish to study at the Art School. Aged 16, I spent 6 months in Geneva and 6 months in Paris as an au-pair. I took the chance to visit most of the museums in Paris. After my commercial studies in Zurich, my strong wish to travel brought me to Australia and Italy for several months, where I again engaged with language and art. Alongside my job, I studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich.
Around 27 years ago, when I moved to Bern, the second phase of my life started with my family, husband and son, a house, and a big garden. I started with oil painting in the studio of the painter Rudolf H. Stettler in Bern and deepend my painting technique in my own atelier in Murten. Since 2008 I am living in the municipality of Murten with my family. My grandson was born in 2013: He is our pride and joy and spends 2-3 days of the week with us.
In 2018 I started a course at the Schule für Gestaltung Bern. This 2-year preparatory course, which I finalized by acclamation, encompasses topics such as illustration, painting, drawing, design, screen-printing, bookbinding, silver casting, adobe programs, photography and film, web design, ink painting and life drawing.
In general, I enjoy being outdoors, whether in my garden, on walks and cycle rides, or, in winter, cross-country skiing in the Jura. One of the reasons why, since December 2020, my new atelier is in the Jura, in Les Ponts-de-Martel. It gives me inspiration and an enormous artistic freedom.
Background / Education
Vocational commercial training in Zurich (freight forwarding/international transport). Worked as a commercial clerk at various globally active companies within the Zurich region. Various language courses and trips abroad.
After moving westwards in 1994, I worked in Bern and Murten. Amongst other things I have organized Jazz Events for the International Jazzfestival Bern and the Jazz Club Avenches. From 2004 to 2019 I had my own Atelier in Murten’s old town, where around 100 oil paintings were created and shown in several exhibitions.
From 2017 to 2020 I attended various painting courses and the 2-year preparatory course at the Schule für Gestaltung in Bern.
Areas of Interest
Alongside oil painting on canvas and reverse glass painting, I am currently fascinated by feathers. ‘Pars pro toto’ is the title of my final piece at the Schule für Gestaltung. This is a playful piece involving around 1000 feathers, most of which I gathered myself, along with 2 heron’s feet and a stork’s skull. I also used these animals’ body parts to explore the mystical background of these materials and their works from the past. Art using feathers takes us to the origins of artistic creation. The shaman Beuys attempts to raise the animal back to life. Following his vision, I experimented and created something new and unpredicted.
